What does it mean? The Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS) was set up in 2001 under the provisions of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act.
The role of CAFCASS is to safeguard the welfare of children, give advice to the family courts, make provision for children to be represented and provide advice and support to children and their families.
CAFCASS are the social work department for the Family Court. They have significant sway and influence over the proceedings and certainly should be regarded with respect. This important function can help you to see your children if you are estranged but they can also keep your children away from you.
